Alternative medicine (i.e. acupuncture, therapeutic massage, etc.) is a rapidly growing industry in the United States and at least one dental practice in San Diego says it has expanded into dentistry as well.
The Center for Natural Dentistry (CND) is a holistic dental office which claims that it integrates natural, whole body wellness procedures with traditional or science-based dental methods to deliver a more effective dental care experience to its patients.
"Many of our patients have tried traditional medicine with unsatisfying results. We offer an alternative look - a look into how their mouth affects their overall health - with some amazing results," said Marvin Pantangco, D.D.S., of the CND.
What Is Holistic Dentistry and How Does It Differ
"Being a holistic dental office, we never use mercury fillings," says Dr. Pantangco (a.k.a. "Dr. Marvin"), "but it goes beyond that. We never perform root canals, we follow a strict extraction protocol to prevent bone infection, we use non-surgical methods to treat gum disease, we are extremely cautious when removing mercury fillings, and we never use metals in our restorations. We also test our patients for biocompatibility before using any new materials... we are holistic dentists in every sense of the word."
In addition, the CND recently added ozone therapy to the practice's alternative dental offerings. Sometimes referred to as oxygen therapy, the CND claims that ozone therapy not only disinfects the area being treated but can increase blood flow, enhance the immune response, and provide a more rapid healing experience to the patient. The CND most often uses ozone therapy as an alternative method of fighting cavities and periodontal disease.
Winning New Patients Over To The 'Holistic Side'
The CND claims that its holistic dentistry practitioners work without the use of toxic chemicals, expensive surgeries, and needless drilling. To that end as well as to educate new patients to the concept of holistic dentistry, the CND offers a free 30-minute phone consultation (1-760-536-1199) to anyone who would like to see if holistic dentistry is right for them or to patients who have long-standing, systemic dental issues and are looking for a new way of being treated.
